How to Select Students

During the first week of April we’ll send you all the
applications that come in from your area. We strongly
suggest you personally interview all the applicants before
you make your decision. It’s the fairest way to decide, in
our opinion. And it gives you a chance to tell all these
youth leaders about Rotary and your Club. Those you don’t
select for RYLA may be interested in Youth Exchange, or
decide to join Rotaract in college, or apply for an
Ambassadorial Scholarship. You can
make a big impression on them in just a few minutes. And by
meeting them, and selecting carefully, you can send
us the best possible participants, so RYLA is even better.
(Also consider picking a few alternates, so if any of your
selected students can’t go at the last minute, you can send
someone else and won’t waste the money you paid.)

You are free to send whomever you want to RYLA. It’s your
money - we’re not going to tell you how to spend it. But if
you sponsor an Interact Club, we ask you to
please send the incoming President to RYLA.
When we get all of next year’s
Interact Presidents together at RYLA we can help them form
an Interact District Council so they can work together on
projects.

After you select
your students, please
send
us an
email
at
ryla-staff@googlegroups.com
to let us know who you are sponsoring. We’ll handle all the
rest of the paperwork: health forms, what they need to bring
to RYLA, directions, etc.
We strongly suggest
you invite the sponsored students to attend a Club meeting
before RYLA, so you can tell them a bit more about Rotary and
they can become more familiar and comfortable with Rotary and
Rotarians. It’ll make their adjustment to RYLA easier. Click

We strongly suggest you invite them back to visit your Club
again after RYLA so they can personally thank you for sending
them, and tell you what they learned and what they did. It’s
sure to be an exciting, heart-warming program for your Club!
